In
Memory of Debra Gail Thornton
|
Our Aunt Deb was killed by a drunk driver in
Portland, Oregon on September 25, 2002. She was waiting at a traffic
light when she was rear ended at 70+ MPH and died instantly. The drunk
driver survived the crash and tried to flee the scene. He was
apprehended and booked on manslaughter. He was also a habitual offender.
We ask that if you know of someone who is
battling an addiction to alcohol or drugs, make it a priority to get them to the
help they need. Don’t give up on them. Do everything you can. If you suspect
that someone is going to drive intoxicated, don’t
hesitate to react. With the holiday season coming up we know there will
no doubt be an increase in people driving intoxicated. There is something
else we know for sure: Drunk drivers will not
stop themselves, it takes a sober person to stop
a tragedy from happening.
Aunt Deb gave the best hugs, and was someone who was easy to
love. This memory of her is a gentle
reminder: As you embrace your loved ones, hug
them a little bit longer.
