| July 22, 2003 - Savannah, GAForecast: 90 degrees, extremely humid Road Condition: Good. 1-95 N from Vero Beach, FL to Savannah, Georgia Fuel: Super Unleaded $1.72 Miles Traveled: Vero Beach, Florida to Savannah, Georgia: 390 (Total 5,867) Bike Update: Running good Road Trip Log Update: The day began with a morning blessing by meeting Dr. Samuel O. Kirkland a minister from New Orleans Baptist Church. Samuel is a true motorcycle enthusiast and was a pleasure to meet. What a great way to head out on the rest of our journey. Traveling off of I-95 on to Highway A1A brought on a slower pace but the scenery was well worth it. Daytona Beach is a place we will definitely go back to…. maybe for Bike Week? As the storm threat brewed overhead we decided to take the time to relax and have lunch rather than try to out run the dark clouds. The storm brought on wind and some rain but nothing that could keep us off the road. We continued on Highway A1A while the thunder and lightening kept it’s distance until St. Augustine. The rain gear came out just in time. The storm didn’t blow over, but instead lasted for hours. Navigating through Jacksonville was extremely easy and would have been perfect if it hadn’t been pouring. The rains eased up about 40 miles outside of Savannah, so we took the opportunity to take off our ran gear and visit a fruit stand that claimed to have a 13 foot gator. Tim finally caught his “Wally Gator” in a tourist trap. We bought some Georgia peaches and got back on the highway headed North.
