| July 21, 2003 - Vero Beach, FLForecast: 95 degrees, extremely humid Road Condition: Good. 1-95 N from Miami, Florida to Vero Beach FL Fuel: Super Unleaded $1.89 Miles Traveled: Miami, Florida to Vero Beach Florida: 250 (Total 5,477) Bike Update: Running good Road Trip Log Update: We woke up to a beautiful sunny day in Miami but kept our eye out for storm clouds. Riding down Highway A1A on Collins Blvd. we noticed that we were setting off all the car alarms. The coastline was an endless skyline of hotels lined up like dominoes. The obsolete buildings were being torn down so that bigger and taller buildings could take their place. We decided to stop at Miami Beach and walk out to put our feet in the Atlantic Ocean to signify our arrival at the 2nd corner of the road trip. We met Martin the unofficial Mayor of Miami. in the parking lot. He was a self-proclaimed ambassador of Miami and was eager to tell us about sight seeing opportunities even providing a map. We offered to take his picture on the Fat Boy after he shared how much he loved motorcycles. We looked out of place on the beach n our leather boots and black jeans compared to the string bikinis and Speedo’s but we didn’t care. After taking a picture and relaxing n the shade it was time to head back out on the road. Our next stop was an appointment with Amy at Locks of Love in Lake Worth. Locks of Love is an organization that provides hairpieces to children with permanent medical hair loss. (www.locksoflove.org) JillMarie and her friend Kendra have been helping to collect ponytails through the Ponytail Roundup (www.ponytailroundup.org) so it was a wonderful opportunity to meet with Amy. She did a great job of showing us everything to the collection process to the final hairpiece that was ready to ship. Donating a ponytail to Locks of love is a simple and wonderful way to help a child. For more information please visit their website. Leaving Lake Worth on I–95N headed for Daytona we noticed that the skies were beginning to change and the predicted evening showers were right on schedule. Out came the rain gear, which proved to be a good choice. The persistent showers gave us a good beating. As the daylight began to fade and the rain became more aggressive with lightening we made the choice to shut down and find a hotel missing Daytona by 120 miles.
